Dr. J. Alex Sielatycki is a board-certified and fellowship-trained Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon whose practice focuses on motion-preservation procedures for the neck and lumbar spine. Dr. Sielatycki has extensive training and experience in the treatment of spinal conditions such as stenosis, spondylolisthesis, disc herniations, radiculopathy, spinal deformity, disc degeneration, spinal fractures and other painful spine conditions. He also has extensive experience in cervical disc replacement, and is heavily involved with the development of lumbar total joint replacement as an alternative to lumbar fusion.

Dr. Sielatycki was drawn to the field of spinal surgery by his appreciation of the complexity and intricacy of treating spinal problems. He also enjoys the field of spinal surgery because of the tremendous opportunities for innovation and improvement to better serve the lives of his patients who are experiencing back and spine problems. “My primary interest is in spinal motion preservation procedures, such as cervical disc replacement and lumbar joint replacement, to avoid fusions whenever possible,” he said.

Dr. Sielatycki joined Steamboat Orthopaedic & Spine Institute (SOSI) in 2022. He is committed to research in his field and has authored multiple research publications, presented at numerous international research meetings and written a long list of textbook chapters related to spine conditions. He received several research grants and multiple awards and honors for both his research and his academic achievements.

Dr. Sielatycki completed medical school at Penn State University College of Medicine and a residency at Vanderbilt University Medical School. He completed an adult and pediatric comprehensive spine fellowship at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center, where he studied under world-renowned expert surgeons in scoliosis and spinal deformity, cervical spine surgery and degenerative spine conditions. During his residency at Vanderbilt University, Dr. Sielatycki trained with the late SOSI surgeon Dr. Clint Devin, who he credited with shaping his decision to become a spine surgeon. “Dr. Devin was quite influential in persuading me to pursue a career in spine surgery. I always enjoyed working with him and he was a tremendous mentor and friend to me.”

Dr. Sielatycki practices at SOSI locations in Steamboat Springs, Winter Park (Granby) and Craig, Colorado. He also provides medical outreach care to the underserved populations in Meeker, Colorado, and in Rock Springs, Lander and Douglas, Wyoming. Dr. Sielatycki enjoys skiing, biking, fishing, and spending time with his family. He and his wife Karen have three children; Elizabeth, Anna, and Caleb.
